Unity through Diversity

Festivals are an important aspect of Filipino culture. Filipinos enjoy participating in colorful and enjoyable events, especially when their entire family is present. Festivals provide an opportunity to honor traditions, history, events, Religion and culture while also raising awareness of them so that they can be passed down to future generations. When we talk about the passing of tradition and culture more often than not festivals come up frequently. Festivals are for everyone, and if you're a tourist, they're a fun and unique opportunity to learn more about an area.

Vigan is a city rich in culture, tradition, and history, and what better way to celebrate it than with the Binatbatan Festival? Binatbatan festival is a celebration in honor of Apo Lakay of the Simbaan a Bassit as an act of thanksgiving for having saved Vigan from a deadly epidemic in 1756. It has now evolved into the most colorful and major celebration to Bigueños, focusing on the commemoration of Apo Lakay's deliverance as well as the promotion of the local fabric, Abel Iloco. It promotes agriculture with its Karbo festival, Calesa Parade, and Santacruzan, in addition to the street pageantry of the Binatbatan Street Dancing.Vigan’s abel Iloco craft is linked to binatbatan dancing. The dance represents the process of beating cotton pods with bamboo sticks to remove the cotton fluff known as batbat from the seed. A festival began in 2002 to highlight this ancient weaving technique that predates the arrival of the Spaniards.

Aside from the wonderful food and entertaining events. The festival itself is important for Vigan's tourism and industry since it attracts tourists who are potential customers. Local products and services are mostly benefited. It also draws people together and brings them closer. Because my family is gathering and attending the festival, it highlights and represents unity and happiness to me. It's also a terrific chance to meet new and intriguing people with unique tales and lovely smiles.
