A Time to Honor the Fallen Champions

 


Araw ng Kagitingan is just a non-working holiday within the Philippines that is part of the long weekend. On this day, World War II vets marched through numerous areas in the Philippines. There are many simple parades throughout the Philippines, however, the headliner of Araw ng Kagitingan when the nation's leader delivers a monologue at the Mt Samat Shrine in Bataan province to immortalize the heroic actions of Filipino and American soldiers all through World War II.

 




Araw ng Kagitingan honors the bravery of Filipinos and American soldiers all through World War II when the Japanese colonized the Philippines. On April 9, 1942, Major General Edward P. King, of the U.s. Army was forced to abandon upwards of 76,000 Filipinos, Chinese, and American soldiers to the Japanese. The troops had to hike 90 miles (145 kilometers) to Camp O'Donnell in San Fernando. So many prison inmates ended up dead during the hike (also renowned as that of the Bataan Death March) as a result of famine, dehydration, and illnesses prior to actually reaching the camp. Despite the problems of defeat, the captives remained strong, and heroes arose from the incident. The collapse of Corregidor was accelerated by the defeat of Bataan. However, if this stance isn't taken, The Japanese could have instantly taken overall US outposts within the Pacific. Bataan pressured them to slow down, granting the troops precious time to plan for subsequent disputes like the Battle of the Coral Sea and or the Battle of Midway. On February 8, 1945, American and Filipino liberty powers overtook the Bataan coastline.

 


These events and selfless sacrifice are indeed a cornerstone of what has become Filipino freedom, and they set a good example and model for coming generations. I commend and am captivated by these brave heroes, and I strive to be just as tenacious as well as valiant as any of these men. They are the embodiment of true Filipino soul and honor, and therefore we should honor them and their sacrifices.

To Be a Strong Country

  Merriam-webster describes resilience as being “ able to withstand or recover quickly from difficult conditions ” so I’d argue that the Philippines is already a resilient country because Filipino’s are typically passionate, hardworking, and tough. Since the beginning, the Philippines is always facing natural or man-made calamities. S uch as Typhoons, Earthquakes, Terrorism (Abu Sayyaf), and many more.   What our country truly needs is a good or better government. Our current government right now is competent but we should always strive for a better country. 16.6% of the population of the Philippines or about 17.6 million people is below the poverty line and the increasing dept of Philhealth to hospitals reached an all-time high of 21.1 billion. It increased due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We need plans and solutions to fix these increasing problems. A Solution For Pollution

  Create a program, clubs, and events that children will attend and participate in in schools.  We must build interest and concern for nature in the younger generation while it's still early.  These clubs must participate in cleaning and tree planting activities and must raise awareness of the deterioration of our planet while trying to find a possible solution to it.   Dep-Ed can also include programs that can help children find a passion that pertains to the protection and study of nature such as conservation scientists, geologists, zoologists, Biologists, and many more. By igniting the passion for protecting the nature of the next generation, the improvement and recovery of the planet can continue for many decades or even centuries to come.   Aside from the children, we must also encourage adults to practice recycling and avoid littering at all costs.
